David Lowe insists he hasn't needed to rip up the Blackburn Rovers playbook after overseeing back-to-back wins during his interim spell.

The stand-in head coach has a 100% record as Blackburn travel to Swansea City this weekend. They too are without a permanent boss after sacking Luke Williams this week.

A free midweek has given Lowe a first real opportunity to work with the players on the training pitch in the build-up to this game. However, with the team sat fifth in the Championship table, there hasn't been much need for major tweaks.

Instead, the focus has been on opposition instructions, small changes in training and keeping continuity.

"We've tried to keep it as much as possible to be honest, we've obviously tweaked it a little bit, we've trained slightly differently at times, with different sessions and so forth.

"Basically we've generally tried to give them the same instructions and the same information, and hopefully they can carry on like they're doing at the moment.

"We just try to keep them focused, and obviously give them some information in and out of possession, and then obviously information on the opposition, and then at the end of the day when they go on the pitch, it's mainly down to them to produce a result.

"At the end of the day, as a coach, as a caretaker manager, you can only guide the players really, I think once they're on the pitch they've got to make decisions themselves, and that's what we try to do.

"We just try to prepare them the best we can, get them ready for what's in front of them, and as you say they're in the play-off positions at the moment so hopefully they can stay there."

Lowe has been at Rovers for plenty of years and has seen the team come close to the play-offs before. Ultimately, it remains something that has eluded them since relegation from the Premier League.

With 13 games to go, this opportunity is as good as any. They have a four-point buffer to seven and Lowe sees now reason why they can't - or won't- grasp this chance.

"It's going to be tough, there's a lot of good teams, a lot of big clubs in there," he said.

"It's going to be a really tough end to the season, because quite a few teams obviously are trying to chase the play-off positions, and hopefully at the end of the season, we'll be one of them.

"I think they should be really believing in themselves, I can't see any reason why not, the type of season they've had.

"I think that's the case now, we're trying to keep it going until the end of the season, and then hopefully win enough football matches which will hopefully get us in the play-offs."

Lowe has been particularly keen to praise the group for their reaction to losing John Eustace. Rovers delivered the perfect response last week with six points and two clean sheets.

"They've all been very professional, they've all respected the staff who've come on board to help them out, and they've been a credit to the professional really," he said.

"I haven't got any issues with them, I'm full of respect for them, they've tried to adopt some little changes that we've made, but generally speaking they've been fantastic most of the season really, so I can't see why I wouldn't change against Swansea.

"They've been fantastic, they've been great for me, Damien, Mike, Paul and Benson, they've been really good, they're open to ideas, they want to work hard, and most of all they want to win football matches."
